differentiated activity for teaching subtraction can be laminated and cut up so children can draw apples and rub out one document just has sums which can be used with apple number lines (included in the resources) The idea of apples falling from trees helps children visualise the problem. It is a step towards word problems but without the words children can work at their own pace and go through as many or as few problems You can edit these to suit the levels of your children. I've now included the missing subtraction sums!!!! Also I have included a powerpoint that can be used as a starter, with a link to a website with interactive apple subtraction game. There is also a lesson plan that you can use if like. It tells you a bit more about how you can use resources. I stuck the large numbered apples on baskets, so the children can put the answered problem cards in the correct basket. for example if the answer was 4, the children would write answer on card and place in basket labelled 4. (Just a simple way of getting children getting up and going!) P.S. remind children to write their names on the back, unless you recognise their handwriting!
